Maintenance Tips for Keeping Your Pool in Top Shape After Opening for the Season

In Southern Evansville, Indiana, folks usually start opening their pools from late March to early June. If you've got a pool heater, you'll probably open up sooner than those who don't. Check out what to expect once your pool is ready.

  • After you open your pool, it might take a few days of vacuuming, brushing, and adding chemicals to get it clear. If our team opens your pool, they'll try to remove as much algae as possible, but you'll likely need to keep up with these tasks daily until the water clears up. Our store staff is here to help if you need any advice.

  • If you've got a saltwater pool, the salt level won't show accurately until the pool has been running for at least 24 hours. We suggest doing a manual test to make sure your salt generator is producing chlorine.

  • Make sure to backwash your filters and empty the skimmer baskets. Spring is a great time, but it brings a lot of debris. Your filter and skimmers work well to keep the pool clean, but they need a little help from you.

  • We recommend bringing a sample of your pool water to our showroom within a week so we can check your water chemistry (unless you're a weekly maintenance customer). Our technicians add the right chemicals to open the pool and balance the water, but things can change quickly once the pool starts running.

  • Keep an eye on your pool equipment to make sure everything continues to run smoothly. If our technicians noted anything that needs attention we will call and inform you of the next steps.

Throughout the Season

  • Prevention is key. We suggest using a weekly algaecide and oxidizer. If you're not sure about the dosage, swing by our store for more info.

  • Want to enjoy your pool all the time? We offer weekly and bi-weekly services at a discounted rate so you can just relax and have fun by the pool.

  • If you think there's an issue, bring in a water sample for FREE testing, or schedule a service call. Catching problems early before they get bigger is the most cost-effective way to keep your pool in great shape.
